"An American
Legend..."
Minnesota Fats (Rudolph Wanderone) is far and away
the most recognized name in the history of billiards. With his unique style,
persona, and gift for the game, Minnesota Fats became an 'American Legend' for
all time, and he managed to give pool more popular exposure than any other
player in history.
Fats was a showman and a hustler. His boast,
"I'm the greatest pool player that ever lived, bar none," drew an endless string of challengers. Jackie Gleason immortalized Minnesota Fats in the classic movie
"The Hustler," which also starred Paul Newman and George C. Scott. In the 60's,
Fats hosted a national television show on which he challenged television and
movie stars to play. His promotion of both the sport and himself was incessant.
Minnesota Fats loved to play the game. But he
also loved to share his knowledge with others. He once said, "I've spent all of
my life playing the various games that are possible on a pool table and I am
never over the spectacular interest there is in the game."
Through the products offered, Fats' legend
lives on. The design and manufacturing teams have created the most exciting and
dynamic lines of billiard tables, billiard cues, and accessories available.
Quality!
To the craftsmen who make our Minnesota
Fats cues, quality is not a marketing buzz word. It is a tradition, a way of
life.
Picky!
Yes, our people are picky, and they are not embarrassed to say
it. A great cue starts with great wood. Our wood buyers are constantly on the
move, searching lumber mills throughout Canada and the Northern United States
looking for the finest grades of maple. If the grain and color aren't right, we
keep looking. These same "picky" routines are repeated through the cue making
process.
Patient!
Everyone knows the expression "watching
paint dry." Well, we can relate because we "watch the wood dry." You can't
make a good cue with wood that isn't dried properly. First, we air dry the cues
for up to one year. Next we cut the wood and store it in special temperature
and humidity controlled rooms. This process is repeated as many as 3 times
before a cue is ready to be called a Minnesota Fats cue.
Pride!
Sure we're proud of our cues. It isn't easy to be the best, but
it sure feels good. |
